2009-03-16 : Check your 2009 Calendar Events!
Last week our web host had a problem with their database servers. We'll actually one of them packed it in. Just happened to be the one that HorseIceCream uses. Despite the backups available I feel that we may have lost a few new entries.
So If you added calendar entries in the last month, please check that they are still on the calendar. If they are missing, I'm sorry to say, they will have to be re-entered.
I am very sorry if you are inconvenienced by this, we will be more agressive in backing up our databases in the future.
Thanks for your patience,
Clay Martin

2009-03-02 : 4-H Has New Requirements for Horse Club Members
There are NEW horse health requirements that the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) are requiring for horses. This effect our 4-H horse program because we use funds from PDA (as do most counties) to supplement our program and therefore must follow these requirements.
Upon arrival at the following 4-H event horse camp/county roundup/district show/state show exhibitors are going to need to produce the following documentation prior to unloading your horse/pony:
1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, CVI issued by a vet and within 30 days prior to the event. Yes that means you will need one for horse camp, another for roundup, another for districts and a fourth for states.
2. An Animal owner or Caretaker's Verification of Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCRP)form. You need one of these for the entire show season
3. A copy of the official Negative EIA test results by an official test within the 12 months prior to the event. Foals less than 6 months of age accompanied by a dam which meets the same requirements are exempt from the EIA testing requirement. If the foal is not accompanied by the dam, a copy of the dam's test results must accompany the foal.
4. Proof of a current rabies vaccination (within the last 12 months of the event)administered by a licensed vet is required for all animals 3 months of age or older in the form of a legible rabies vaccination certificate or the vaccination information must be on the CVI.
Please turn in your 4-H member enrollment forms as club with the $10 fee per member. The $25 fee will also be required from members who did not take part in the county wide spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
The project animal form (the form you fill out about your horse(s)/pony(ies) you are using are going to be due no later than June 1st as started in the 4-H rule book. Please provide a copy of all above 4 items with your animal enrollment form by June 1st.
Failure of members to meet either deadline will result in not being able to take part in our county roundup.

2009-02-10 : Valentine's Day Attack Sending 11,000 Emails Per Hour!
CAUTION: There’s a new virus/Trojan horse getting ready to attack your PC. The culprit arrives in the form of e-mails bearing Valentine’s Day-related subjects like “You and Me” “I dream of you” “. The messages purport to be greeting card notifications bearing pictures of hearts and offering links, which the recipients can use to view the Valentine’s Day e-cards, sent to them, but clicking on those links actually triggers the download of the W32/Waledac.C worm which affects most Windows-based Platforms.
The emails are easy to identify by the Subject Line and the Body. The subject contains something about love or a romantic phrase. The body of the email contains a short message, and a link that uses an IP address (Example: http://128.0.0.1) instead of a domain name (Excample: http://www.e-cards.com). Keep your browser and antivirus software definitions up to date and watch those emails!

2008-10-14 : Get Your Barn into the Spirit of Halloween with Yummy Treats!
Halloween Horse Treat
I bet your horses would like these Halloween treats.
First get a small pumpkin for each horse. Cut off the top and remove the insides being careful to get all of the seeds. Fill it with a mixture of sliced apples, carrots, grain, fruit and grains or cereal. Put the top back on the pumpkin. Give each horse their pumpkin. They will have fun squishing and smashing the pumpkin to get the treats out. Some horses will even eat the pumpkin.
2008-09-16 : Maine Mavericks Hosts Fall Performance Show was Hot!
Sunday September 15 was a hot muggy day. So hot the judge even decided to give the English riders the option of not wearing their jackets. The rain during the night left large puddles in the arena but that didn't dampen the spirits of the horses or the riders.
HorseIceCream.com was there to take photos and short videos. As always our photos and videos have been optimized to display quickly in your browser. This means that they are a lower resolution then what you want to print. If you want high resolution copy of a photo without a watermark, just drop us an email. We're not photographers so we don't want money for our photos or emails.

Photographs and short videos from the Harford Fair 2008 are now available for your viewing pleasure. To see them, just click on the link below. If you want to view the short videos, you can double click on them to play them online or download and view them on your PC.
Please note that all of the photos are only from Thursday through Saturday of Fair Week.
Thanks for your patience. There were so many photos and some videos, that we decided to create a photo album for each day. We're not professional photographers but I do take so many photos that there are always a few great shots. If any videos were shot, they are at the end of that day's photo album.
The photos and videos have been processed to ensure that they load quickly in your browser. This means that the photos will not print well. If you want copies of photos for printing, you'll need to get the image numbers and contact us. We can provide you with the print quality file that also has the HorseIceCream.com watermark removed.
If you are interested in a video or a still created from a video, get the video title and contact us. We can provide much clearer video but the file size will be much larger, so you'll need to load to the computer you use to view it before playing it. Also we can snap a still photo from any point in the video. Again, we'd need to know which video and where in it you want the photo snapped.
PLEASE GIVE US FEEDBACK! We REALLY, REALLY want to hear from you. Let us know what we did right and what we can improve. This site will improve with your feedback!

2008-07-03 : Limited Time Offer: All HORSE FOR SALE Ads are FREE
In order to encourage more use of the Horse For Sale area, we have reduced the (already low) cost of ads to $0. So now is the time to add your ad, with pedigree and lots of pictures.
Your ad can have an introduction to your horse, your horse's breed, color, birthday, size and weight. You can also list skills and registration information. When you place an ad you enter the location where the horse is boarded. This provides potential buyers with a Google map (that can provide driving directions) to that location, right on the ad. This also allows them to filter the ads based on distance from their zip code.
You can list up to 3 generations of your horse's sires and dams, which are displayed on the ad as a family tree. Is one of your horse's ancestors famous? You can provide a web site that becomes a link from that ancestors name.
So, take advantage of this limited time offer, place your ad today.

2008-06-30 : HorseIceCream.com Staff Back from Long Trip
Digital Cameras are wonderful gadgets! We went on a trip and took lots and lots of photos. Got some great shots of horses in art. There was one fountain with a herd of bronze pegasus that was simply awesome!
Digital Cameras are fragile gadgets too. Just a couple of days into the trip we dropped the camera. Even though it was in its camera case, the camera was so badly damaged that we were unable to repair it. Moreover the camera card was damaged. Most of the photos were lost, including all of the horse art!
Thus today's tips: 1. Use extra padding in that digital camera case! 2. Swap out the memory card or download your photos often.

2008-05-05 : Cancelations, It Happens and We can Help
This last weekend HorseIceCream was going to be at the Spring Speed Show at Skyline Corral located at the Tioga County Fairgrounds. Seems they received a lot more rain than we did in Susquehanna. The show ring was more suitable for wrestling or 4WD races than equine activities, can you say mud hole? Lori was disappointed but it gave the web master an Idea (yep with a capital I). We will feature a cancellation box on the home page of HorseIceCream.com. Something with a red border, flashing lights, warning sounds and.... Well maybe just a noticeable red boarder. So if your event is canceled, you can call Clay, the HorseIceCream.com web master, 24/7 at (570)-396-3121 and we will immediately note the cancellation.
This way we can all check the HorseIceCream home page before packing the truck, and save some gas too. If there is no red cancellation box on the page, then we have not received a call. Look for a test cancellation to run for the next few weeks, just so everyone knows what it looks like.
Of course if you enter your show in our Show Ring (its FREE) you can edit your show information any time, yourself! You can update information about your show as its date approaches.

2008-04-14 : Tack Sale - BBQ at Unity Stables Pictures Posted
Update: We were there and took some pictures. Click this link to view the pictures.
The Rough-n-Ready Riders' Tack Sale was a success, thanks to those who braved the cold to stop by Unity Stables. The day started out snowy and blustery but the Rough-n-Ready Riders' lived up to their name by volunteering all day long. There was a raffle for some baskets of neat stuff, the tack sale (of course), riding demonstrations, horses for sale, and food! All kinds of baked goods, hot dogs and hamburgers were available in addition to the chicken BBQ. All proceeds from the event benefit 4-H Horse Club members.
HorseIceCream.com had a table at the Tack Sale. Many folks stopped by our table to ask questions and to give us feedback. We' handed out bumper stickers and posters too.
Other businesses supporting the Rough-n-Ready Riders by having a table were Audrey Erat, Equine Sports Massage, Grinning Horse Tack, Sickmon's Gentle Giants, and Blue Ribbon Stable Tack.
Look for the photos in the Gallery under Parades, Clinics, and Events. You can use the link above get to the Gallery or you can click on the Gallery menu item in the red bar at the top of the page.

2008-03-02 : We have swiched to Google's custome search
Our initial choice for local search was not working so we switched to another method. We are now using Google's Custom Search. The downside of this is that the results are a bit wide, and we can't adjust that. So we're sorry to say that for some users browsers they may have to scroll sidewards to see all of the results. Luckily the part that may be obscured is not as relevant to searches on this site.
We expect the on site search to get better as Google scans more of our site.
Thanks for your patience!
