Why create this site?HorseIceCream.com was created to bring together and promote the growing horse community in Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southern Tier New York. Horses seem to be a natural fit in our rural area. Many dairy farms have been converted to horse farms. More and more stables and breeding farms are relocating here. Horse enthusiasts and the businesses that support them need a place to talk, share photos, and get the scoop on everything horse in our region. HorseIceCream.com wants to be that place! What's with the name - horseicecream.com?It's a totally different name, no? When we came up with the idea for this site, we sat down and thought long and hard about what we needed in a name. We decided that.., The name had to be:
HorseIceCream met all of the criteria. How did this all get started? This web site got started when we saw the difficulty family and friends had finding farriers, tack shops, and even other horse lovers in the area. Searches in big name horse sites turned up all kinds of information for more populated areas but not for our corner of the world. We wanted to concentrate here, where we live. We think this is a great place to be for people and horses. Our niece enjoyed 4-H horse events but found it challenging to satisfy the needs of her horse. Wouldn't it be great if there was Horse Hang Out online for our area? Well, we felt we could make that happen. HorseIceCream.com represents over a year's worth of hard work, designing, gathering information and building the web site. We hope you enjoy it and visit often! Who are the people running this site?Clay and Lori Martin live in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. They own and operate a small computer solutions business, Martin Works, Inc. Both are computer professionals. Clay has a love for computer programming. Stick him in a room with a computer and a set of specs, then just walk away….Clay built and maintains the code and applications for HorseIceCream.com. Lori has a love for all animals, including horses. "Horse" was her first word. She always wanted her own. For her 10th birthday she got her wish. Her parents bought her a pony! Unfortunately, they knew nothing about horses. The pony had been out to pasture for 5 years because of his "attitude problems"! It took almost a year, but eventually Lori won the pony over, and they were best friends for many years. Lori provides the artwork, content, and customer and technical support for HorseIceCream.com. Who are those cartoon horses?Dusty and Misty are the HorseIceCream.com mascots. Dusty was the name of Lori's pony. He inspired her to create a cartoon pony with "attitude". Misty is Dusty's friend. The real Dusty was never so fortunate to have a mare about but he definitely would have liked Misty. You'll see Dusty and Misty around HorseIceCream.com, on all of our advertising, and in our cartoons. If you have an idea for a cartoon, please send it along to . |
